The ride into Podgorze feels different from the start. The cart crosses the Vistula slowly, the commentary grows quieter, and the stops become moments of stillness. From your seat you watch an ordinary neighbourhood reveal its past layer by layer, and the guide gives each place the time and the silence it asks for.
Two places anchor the story. At the Eagle Pharmacy, Tadeusz Pankiewicz kept his doors open inside the ghetto and quietly helped its residents until the end. On the square outside stands the memorial: 33 chair monuments and 37 ordinary chairs on which anyone may sit, in memory of the Jews of the ghetto, most of whom the Germans deported and murdered. Nearby stands a surviving stretch of the wall that the German occupation authorities put up around the ghetto; according to the Institute of National Remembrance, its shape symbolised Jewish tombstones.

About the tour
Krakow Ghetto & WWII Electric Cart Tour
This route crosses the Vistula to Podgorze, where the German occupation authorities created the Krakow Ghetto in March 1941. According to the Institute of National Remembrance, the Germans crowded between 11,000 and 20,000 Jews into an area where about 3,000 people had lived before the war, and in March 1943 the Germans liquidated the ghetto. In 30 minutes the tour tells that story with care, through the on-board audio guide.
You pass surviving fragments of the ghetto wall on Lwowska and Limanowskiego streets; according to the Institute of National Remembrance, the shape of the wall symbolised matzevot, Jewish tombstones. You stop at Heroes of the Ghetto Square, where 33 chair monuments of cast iron and bronze and 37 ordinary chairs, on which anyone may sit, stand as a memorial. You see the Eagle Pharmacy of Tadeusz Pankiewicz, according to the Museum of Krakow the only pharmacy inside the ghetto, whose owner was the only Pole allowed to stay there permanently, and the exterior of Schindler's Factory, where Oskar Schindler saved about 1,200 Jews. It is a sober, moving route, and a shorter alternative to the full Memory Trail for guests who are short on time.
This route is for visitors who want to understand this chapter properly but have limited time or energy for a long walking tour. The cart carries you between memorials that lie scattered across Podgorze, keeps the group small and private, and leaves you at the end with a quiet moment to reflect rather than a hurried walk back across the bridge.

Great experience overall. The tour was a really convenient way to see a lot of Krakow in a short amount of time without having to walk everywhere. Do we go inside Schindler's Factory?
The tour visits the exterior and tells the story on site. The museum inside is a separate, ticketed visit, which we are happy to help you plan around the ride.
Is this tour appropriate for children?
It covers the Holocaust, a serious and moving subject. The guide can skip parts of the audio commentary for your group, but families with younger children may prefer the Kazimierz route.
How is this different from the Memory Trail?
This route focuses on the wartime Ghetto in Podgorze in 30 minutes. The Memory Trail is a fuller 60-minute ride: it covers the same Ghetto and adds the Catholic half of Kazimierz first, with a stop at each of its three churches.
Is the tour respectful of the history?
Yes. It is told quietly and factually by the on-board audio guide, in keeping with the memory of the people and events it describes.
