Just 14 km from Kraków's Market Square lies one of the most extraordinary places on earth. The Wieliczka Salt Mine has been continuously excavated since the 13th century, making it one of the oldest operating mines in the world. In 1978 it was among the first sites inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List - and once you descend into its depths, you will understand why.
Our licensed guide leads you through a curated route of the mine's most spectacular highlights: nine levels of shafts and chambers stretching over 300 km of tunnels. You'll walk through crystalline salt grottos, stand beside underground lakes whose still surfaces mirror the carved salt formations above, and marvel at the extraordinary Chapel of St. Kinga - a vast underground cathedral with salt chandeliers, altarpieces, and bas-reliefs carved entirely from salt rock by mining artists over 67 years.
Entry tickets are included in your tour price. The mine maintains a constant temperature of 14°C year-round, making it a refreshing retreat in summer and a warm escape in winter. Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a light jacket.

Yes - the mine maintains a constant 14°C (57°F) year-round. Bring a light jacket or layer. It's refreshing in summer but can feel cool in winter.
The standard tourist route involves 800 stairs downward. There is a lift available for those with mobility limitations, but some sections involve uneven surfaces. Please inform us when booking.
The tourist route goes down to 135 metres (Level III). You descend by stairs and return to the surface by lift at the end of the tour.
The Salt Mine tour is a half-day, so it can be combined with an afternoon in Kraków. We don't recommend combining it with Auschwitz on the same day - both experiences deserve their own full attention.
