About this tour

Nestled beneath the Tatra peaks, Zakopane is Poland's beloved winter capital and a year-round destination of extraordinary charm. This vibrant mountain town has been drawing artists, writers, and adventurers since the 19th century, and today it offers a unique blend of folk tradition, stunning scenery, and irresistible street food.

Our tour begins with a stroll along the famous Krupówki promenade - a lively pedestrian street lined with wooden shops selling hand-carved souvenirs, smoked cheese, and local crafts. Your guide brings the town's fascinating history to life: the origins of the Zakopane architectural style, the role of the town in Polish national identity, and its beloved connection to celebrated sculptor and artist Stanisław Witkiewicz.

We venture beyond the tourist centre to explore traditional wooden villas, a working góralski farmstead, and spectacular viewpoints over the valley. The journey ends with a traditional highland feast featuring żurek, barszcz, and the iconic oscypek sheep's cheese grilled over an open flame.

Frequently asked questions

Is Zakopane different from the Tatra Mountains tour?

Yes - the Tatra Mountains tour focuses on hiking and nature, while this tour focuses on the town, its culture, architecture, and food. Many guests do both on consecutive days!

When is the best time to visit?

Zakopane is magical in every season. Summer offers hiking and festivals; winter brings skiing and snowy Christmas markets. Spring and autumn are the least crowded.

Can I buy souvenirs?

Absolutely. We build in free time on Krupówki for shopping. Look for hand-carved wood, woven textiles, leather moccasins (kierpce), and of course oscypek cheese.

Is the walking strenuous?

The main town walk is flat and easy. The optional Gubałówka hike is moderate (30 min uphill) but there's also a cable car for those who prefer.
