Forum Przestrzenie is a cafe-bar and events space on the ground floor of the former Hotel Forum, a huge brutalist slab from the 1980s standing on the south bank of the Vistula. In summer, deck chairs spread across the grass between the building and the river, and you drink your coffee or beer looking straight across the water at Wawel Castle. It is one of the best places in Krakow to do very little, on purpose.
What it is
Hotel Forum was built through the 1980s as a flagship hotel of late communist Poland and closed in the early 2000s. The building never reopened as a hotel; for years its river facade earned its keep as the city's biggest advertising banner. In the 2010s the ground floor came back to life as Forum Przestrzenie, literally "Forum Spaces", a bar, cafe and cultural venue that kept the raw concrete and added a heavy dose of period furniture. The result turned a building many people wanted demolished into one of the city's favourite hangouts.

- The riverside deck chairs: the main event in summer. Claim one on the bank, order a drink and take in the Wawel view across the river.
- The interior: raw concrete, neon and 1980s furniture that feels curated rather than left over. Worth a look even if you plan to sit outside.

The address is Marii Konopnickiej 28. On foot from the Main Market Square it takes 20 to 25 minutes: cut past Wawel, cross the river and follow the bank. Trams to Rondo Grunwaldzkie stop close by. Tips
Go an hour before sunset: the light on Wawel from the deck chairs is the best free view in the city. Weekday afternoons are calm enough to read or work. In cooler months the indoor space still makes the venue worth a stop, but the terrace is the point, so save your visit for good weather if you can.
